Marathon Season 2 Launch Issues: Bugs, Errors, and Free Rewards (2026)

The highly anticipated launch of Marathon Season 2 took a rocky turn, plagued by a multitude of errors and bugs that overshadowed the new features and improvements. It's a shame, as the game's developers, Bungie, had a lot riding on this season, with a full progression reset and exciting new modes to explore.

One of the most frustrating issues was the constant disconnects caused by error codes like Weasel, Monkey, and Anteater. These errors not only disrupted gameplay but also resulted in players losing their hard-earned loot, a major blow to any avid gamer.

In an attempt to make amends, Bungie offered free deluxe sponsored kits to those affected by the bugs. While this gesture is appreciated, it doesn't fully compensate for the lost progress and the frustration players experienced.

The problems didn't end there. Another bug impacted the codex unlocks for significant achievements from the previous season. Players who worked tirelessly to reach VIP rank for the in-game factions were disappointed to find that their special cosmetic rewards were not unlocked, despite their efforts. This bug, verified by Eurogamer, highlights a significant issue with the game's progression system.

Despite these initial setbacks, Marathon players are finding some silver linings. The new Night Marsh map variant is a spooky treat, with jump scares that keep players on their toes. The changes to the menu screen and the introduction of new cosmetics are also welcome additions, addressing some of the common gripes from Season 1.

However, the question remains: will these initial technical issues have a lasting impact on Season 2's success? With the game's launch coinciding with a trailer during Sony's State of Play and the start of its free-to-play trial period, the timing couldn't be worse.

Personally, I think Marathon has a lot of potential, but these early bugs and errors could deter players and damage the game's reputation. It's a shame, as the developers have clearly put effort into improving the game, but these technical hitches might overshadow the positive changes.

From my perspective, it's crucial for game developers to prioritize stability and a smooth player experience. While new features are exciting, they mean little if the game is unplayable due to bugs. I hope Bungie can quickly address these issues and ensure a more stable experience for Marathon players going forward.
